Princeton High School will offer its traditional summer workshops again this year: Evolution of a College Essay ($175), SAT Review Program for Verbal ($175 or $275 with the SAT Math Program), SAT Review Program for Math ($175 or $275 with the SAT Verbal Program)! Princeton High School and John Witherspoon Middle School required summer packets for mathematics classes can be found on the Mathematics Department's website. Summer packet information for AP Stats and AP Computer Science have been added.
Princeton High School required summer reading for AP French: The text to be read is Albert Camus, L'Etranger. There will be a content quiz shortly after the beginning of the school year September 2010. The book may be purchased, or may be borrowed for the summer. Please see Madame MacRae in Room 262 (World Languages Office 255) prior to the end of school if you would prefer to borrow a copy for the summer.

Registration for the 2010-11 School Year
Please make an appointment to register at your child's designated school. To be eligible for pre-school, a child must reach four years of age on or before October 1, 2010. To be eligible for kindergarten, a child must reach five years of age on or before October 1, 2010. Please be prepared to bring: proof of residency, child's birth certificate, child's medical records, and immunization records. For information on our preschool program, please visit our preschool website.
IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: All students must be properly domiciled in Princeton to attend the Princeton Regional Schools. Students who are not domiciled in Princeton will be charged full tuition. Individuals who knowingly violate this state law and board policy may be referred to law enforcement officials to determine whether intentional fraud has occurred. For further information on the definition of “properly domiciled” and residency requirements, please contact the Office of Student Services at (609) 806-4206.

The 2010 Counselor of the Year for Mercer County is John Witherspoon Middle School's John Cronin! Every year ONE counselor in all of Mercer County is recognized for his or her dedication to the counseling profession, and service to students and school communities. Counselors are nominated by colleagues and selected by a committee who honors the finalist at an award dinner. This year it is our very own John Cronin! Thank you, John, for all that you do for our students and for Princeton Regional Schools! |
Congratulations to Sadik Shahidain, PHS sophomore, who made the US Junior Math Olympiad team and will be spending this summer at the University of Nebraska to train with the US team. This is an all expense paid summer training camp for US Math Olympiad team members who will be representing USA in the upcoming International Math Olympiad. He also brought in several prizes in the Science bowl and Math bowl for PHS.
Congratulations to the PHS AAPT Physics Bowl 2010 teams! Sadik Shahidain, PHS sophomore, was the highest scoring student in division 1 (1st year physics) student in our region (NJ and Pennsylvania). Our division 1 (first year physics students) team and division 2 (2nd year physics students) both placed second in their respective divisions.

Congratulations to the John Witherspoon Science Bowl Team who took fifth place at the National Science Bowl competition in Washington, D.C.! Their 7 and 2 record at the Nationals won a $1000 prize for the school given to the team by Secretary of Energy Dr. Steven Chu in a ceremony with First Lady Michelle Obama. The team earned their berth at the national competition by taking first place in the Department of Energy's

Congratulations to the Princeton High School team coached by Lisa Krueger who placed fifth in the M3 Challenge - winning the Exemplary Team Prize of $5000 prize! Now in its fifth year, Moody's Mega Math Challenge is an Internet-based math competition open to high school juniors and seniors living in the 18 states along the East Coast. It spotlights applied mathematics as a powerful problem-solving tool, as a viable and exciting profession, and as a vital contributor to advances in an increasingly technical society. Funded by The Moody's Foundation and organized by SIAM, it
challenges students, working in teams of three to five, to solve an open-ended, realistic, applied math-modeling problem focused on a real-world issue in just 14 hours using only free and publicly available resources. This year, 531 teams participated in the competition.

Congratulations to PHS Sophomore, Spencer Costanzo, for winning the 2010 Bing.com Earth Day Photo Contest!
Spencer won first place in his age group for his photograph of an iguana (on the left) taken in Puerto Rico. Bing will fly Spencer out to Seattle in May to meet with the Bing editorial team to help select photos for their website. Spencer has also won a new HP computer for himself, and an entire digital photo lab for Princeton High School. This lab includes 12 computers, 3 photo printers and 3 Canon SLR cameras. Spencer is the president of the PHS photography club, and the club looks forward to using the new equipment.

Congratulations to the Princeton Regional School District K-12 World Languages Program for being designated as a model program for the 2010-2012 award period! This designation brings with it a special honor as the Princeton Regional School District is the only district statewide to be recognized for its entire K-12 program by the New Jersey World Languages Model Programs Initiative.
PHS Swim Captain Victoria Cassidy has earned All-America honors! Cassidy, senior and co-captain of the Princeton High School girls' swimming team, has been officially recognized as All-America by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association for her 500 yard freestyle swim in the New Jersey State Individual Swimming Championships on March 7, 2010. Her time of 4:52.87, which broke by eleven seconds her own school record, was more than four seconds below the automatic qualifying time for All-America recognition. Victoria's performance in the state meet caps a four-year career of athletic and academic excellence at PHS. She has accepted admission to the University of Maryland- College Park, where she will swim and pursue her career goal of nursing. Congratulations to Victoria for this rare and hard-earned honor!

Congratulations to the John Witherspoon Middle School MathCounts team who placed third out of the eighteen teams that competed on February 20th, 2010 at the Mercer Region Chapter MathCounts Competition. MathCounts is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through grassroots involvement in every U.S. state and territory. The JW team placed third out of the eighteen teams.
Congratulations to Mr. Steve Carson, JW Science Teacher, who has been selected by the Princeton Environmental Commission as one of the recipients of the 2009 Sustainable Princeton Leadership Awards.
Princeton High School has been ranked #94 in the nation by US News and World Report in their 2009 ranking of best high schools. PHS was the highest ranked open-admissions public high school in New Jersey and the only open-admissions public high school in New Jersey to make it into the top 100. Congratulations to Principal Gary Snyder, the PHS faculty and professional staff, the PHS administrative staff, the PHS support staff and to PHS students and parents on achieving this recognition. Congratulations to Eileen Sanchez for receiving the 2009 Council of Educational Diagnostic Services (CEDS) Member of the Year Award at the CEDS Annual Conference in Philadelphia,PA. This award is in recognition of her ten years of dedication, commitment and contributions in bringing the profession of Learning Consultants (LDT-C) to the national level. Eileen was instrumental in establishing the National Certification of Educational Diagnosticians Board (NCEDB) Exam. She was in the first cohort of Learning Consultants to meet the requirements of the NCEDB as a Nationally Certified Educational Diagnostician. Eileen recently congratulated her Princeton Regional School District colleagues, Maureen Mahon and Susan
Bellusci for meeting the requirements as Nationally Certified Educational Diagnosticians.

Congratulations to Priscilla Russel - National Supervisor of the Year! Priscilla Russel won the prestigious Pearson Prentice Hall Award for national supervisor of the year! This honor is awarded annually by NADSFL, the National Association of District Supervisors of Foreign Languages (NADSFL). The award goes to one supervisor in the country based on outstanding service to the profession. This award recognizes Priscilla’s hard work and dedication in the district, her involvement and leadership in national and state organizations and her accomplishments and publications in the field of language
teaching. NADSFL has recognized the difference that Priscilla has made in our district as well as throughout the state and nation. |
