Board of Education Meeting Highlights


Highlights from the December 18, 2007 Board of Education meeting:

----  The Board noted the November 1, 2007 retirement of  Susan Blohowiak, LDTC, at Riverside and Johnson Park, after 16 years of service to the district and the July 1, 2008 retirement of Maxine Shore, Art Teacher, Johnson Park, after 14 years of service to the district and thanked them both for their many contributions to students, staff and the Princeton community.

----  The Board listened to a presentation from John Miranda on the recently opened fitness center at Princeton High School. A gala opening of the fitness center will be held on Friday, January 25 at 5 p.m.

---- The Board approved the following trip: PHS Basketball Trip to Allentown, PA to compete in the Holiday Basketball Tournament from December 28-29, 2007 Expenses for the trip will be covered by fund-raising.

---- The Board approved the K-12 Language Arts Benchmarks, the High School Program of Studies for 2008-2009 and authorized the submission of the district's Professional Development Plan for 2008-2009 to the State Department of Education.

----The Board authorized the refunding of all or a portion of the remaining outstanding callable school bonds issued  in the original principal amount of $60,929,000 and dated November 1,2001 (the 2001 Bonds). The 2001 Bonds maturing on or after February 1, 2012, may be redeemed at the option of the Board in whole or in part on any date on or after February 1, 2011 (the Redemption Date), at the par amount of such 2001 Bonds to be refunded plus accrued interest to the Redemption Date.

----The Board listened as various teachers, representing their schools and/or themselves, reiterated the teachers' desire to work with the administration to resolve outstanding issues with respect to lesson planning in a mutually agreeable and timely manner.

---- The Board welcomed the following new full-time staff to PRS:  Charlotte Heckscher, Special Education Assistant, Riverside; Roneisha Jarvis, Secretary, John Witherspoon.

The next meeting of the Board of Education will be January 22, 2008 at 8 p.m. at John Witherspoon Middle School.
