A Tribute to Jeffrey Lowe

On Tuesday, June 3, 2008, the Princeton Regional Schools' community lost a student advocate and exceptional individual due to illness.

Jeff Lowe was hired as a PHS Social Studies teacher in September 2002.  He brought to this position many years of classroom experience, as well as his love and knowledge of counseling.

Jeff was the Director of Counseling at The Peddie School from 1971-1983.  This special expertise was extremely helpful, when Jeff moved from PHS Social Studies teacher to PHS College Advisor in 2006. He was a floor broker on the New York Stock Exchange from 1983-1987, a history teacher in Hamilton from 1987-1989, the National Sales Director at Capital Corporation from 1989-1999 and a Margin Account Trader on the New York Stock Exchange from 1999-2002.

Jeff worked very hard to create the PHS College Center, which became a concentrated resource for students.  His dedicated efforts resulted in a large center with computers, conference tables, and comfortable seating which created a welcoming area.  Jeff also reached out to colleges in a vigorous way resulting in strong relationships for our students to rely upon.

Words From PRS Staff:

Principal Gary Snyder:
Jeff didn’t believe in a “wait list” for our graduating seniors.  He developed a process for counselors to use, in a team approach, to make sure colleges had all important information in front of them so students would be accepted, not wait listed.

Jeff was stalwart in his insistence that we not forget the students, their careers and the excitement and trepidation they feel during the whole college process.

Christina Han:
Jeff had a wonderful sense of humor that reminded us all of the funny quirks of life, many times out of our control.

Maureen Carr, Margaret Conway, Olive Giles, PRS guidance counselors, John Baxter, Christine Carbone:
His generous smile and immediate willingness to stop and listen are the characteristics he would most want to be remembered by.  We all need to celebrate Jeff Lowe by striving to be the best person we can, to work hard and to enjoy the many wonderful opportunities that life gives us.

Patti Lieberman:
Jeff took it upon himself to come into work even when he wasn’t feeling well because he knew the value of each and every day – he came to make a difference in the lives of children.  No matter how much pain he felt or discomfort he had to endure, Jeff continued to see himself as the lucky one. He knew life was very precious.   With a generous heart he focused on the things he loved: his students, co-workers, friends, family, coaching swimming, the Red Sox, and any baseball team that could beat the Yankees.  Jeff has lived an amazing life journey, filled with many experiences, impacting the lives of students, athletes and friends. We will celebrate his life, mourn his passing, and revel in the fact that he has touched each of our lives.

Susan Welsh:
Jeff's reputation for teaching was outstanding. It was a pleasure to have Jeff as a vital member of the Hamilton Aquatic Club coaching staff for over 15 years. His expertise in competitive swimming led the club to a Top Ten showing at the 2002 YMCA National Swimming and Diving Championships. Jeff has provided our high high school juniors and seniors with invaluable college counseling. He has counseled high school students to match their academic profile with appropriate colleges and universities. He personally contacted numerous coaches and admissions directors on behalf of the students. His dedication resulted in many of our students and student/athletes gaining acceptance into colleges and universities. His dedication to PRS over the years has resulted in the admiration and respect from students, parents and staff.

The PRS Community extends their condolences to Jeff's family and friends on the loss of an exceptional individual.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jeffrey R. Lowe Scholarship Fund, c/o Marta N. Lowe, P.O. Box 10029, Hamilton, NJ 08650.
