Residency Policy and Registration Information
In order to attend the Princeton Regional Schools tuition-free, students over 5 and under 20 years of age must be legal residents of Princeton Township, Princeton Borough, or Cranbury Township (high school students only). This means a student must either be living with a parent/guardian whose permanent home is located within the district or be living with a person who is domiciled within the district and who is financially supporting the child because the parent(s) have a severe family or economic hardship. In the latter case, evidence must be provided. Families must provide proof of residency to enroll a student in the Princeton Regional Schools. Proofs of residency may include but are not limited to the following: lease, mortgage, or deed; property tax bill; utility bill; letter from Princeton
University Housing, Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton Theological Seminary, or other agency/person supporting the residence; court order; or placement directive. Without proof of residency, the student will not be permitted to enroll. If partial documentation is provided, the student may be enrolled on a temporary basis, pending receipt of full documentation. The district will investigate any student’s residency status if there is reason to believe the student may not be legally domiciled. Should the district discover that a student is not a legal resident of the district and thus illegally attending the Princeton Regional Schools, the district will bill the parents for the full cost of the tuition for any period of ineligible attendance. For questions or further information about residency, please contact the Office of Student Services at 806-4206.
We hold an early spring registration for children entering kindergarten the following fall. Parents register children at the elementary school serving their current school-attendance area. Parents must establish proof of Princeton residency at registration. Children do not need to be present at registration, but parents do need to bring their child’s birth certificate and health records--particularly immunization records. By New Jersey state law, children must have the following vaccinations to be admitted into school: DTP, four doses; oral polio, three doses; MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) 2 doses; and hepatitis B, 3 doses.
All new students as well as pupils in grades 3, 6, 9 and 11 are required to have updated physicals examinations. Students who wish to participate in athletics are also required to have current physicals.
