Kindergarten

What will you know and be able to do at the end of this course/marking period?

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

1. Respond to commands. (up, down, listen, stand up, sit down, raise your hand, walk, jump, clap).
2. Identify different objects by size (big, medium, small), color (white, black, brown, red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange), and shapes (square, triangle rectangle, circle).
3. Ask memorized questions (¿Cómo te llamas?, ¿Cómo estás?, ¿Qué día es hoy?, ¿Qué mes es?, ¿Qué tiempo hace hoy?)
4. Respond to simple questions connecting the vocabulary and modeled patterns of language (es … , tiene … ,me llamo…, estoy …) .
5. Recognize and use days of the week, months (January, February, March, April, May, June), and weather (it’s hot, cold, sunny, windy, rainy, snowy).
6.  Recognize and use topical vocabulary (house, farm animals, sea animals, family, body parts, pets, fruits, parts of the house).
7. Express feelings (happy sad), likes and dislikes using simple and memorized phrases and sentences (I like, I don’t like).
8. Identify holidays and celebrations (December holidays, Easter Week, Cinco de Mayo).
9. Use the numbers 1 to 10 to group and sort objects.
10. Sing authentic songs (“Dos manitas, Diez deditos”, “los elefantes”)



First grade
Objectives for the year. At the end of this year you will be able to:

1. Tell somebody about yourself (tell your name, birthday and how you come to school (by bus, bike, car or walking).

2. Tell about some things you like and like to do (I like to (action)).

3. Recognize and use vocabulary relating to who is working in your school (secretary, principal, nurse, student, teacher), what is in your classroom (scissors, eraser, pencil, crayons, ruler, blackboard, marker) and what you do with them (cut, color, study).

4. Recognize and talk about people in the community (police officer, firefighter, nurse, doctor, secretary, mail carrier, and cook).

5. Become community helpers and act out short role plays explaining the objects they use (stethoscope, badge, water, paper, mail, food)

6.Use the days of the week, months of the year (it’s July, August, September, October, November, December) the weather (hot, cold, sunny, rainy, windy, snowy, cloudy and foggy), and use numbers to 31 to talk about days on the calendar.

7. Tell what clothing you wear (winter: jacket, gloves, hat, sweater, pants, boots, scarf; spring: t-shirt, dress, raincoat, umbrella, rain boots; summer: shorts, hat, sandals, sun glasses, swimming suit.) and what activities you like doing during each season (winter: ski, slide, skate, play with snow; spring: fly a kite, pick up flowers, play outside; summer: go on a picnic, go to the beach, play, swim, and travel)

8. Tell someone how you are feeling (I am sad, happy, tired, bored, hungry) and ask memorized questions about how others are feeling.

9. Tell about how others are feeling by asking and responding to their questions.

11.  Use the vocabulary studied in the different units to graph and compare.

10. Tell about your family members (mother, father, sister, brother, grandfather, grandmother, aunt, uncle, cousin) and relate them to reading books about “Teo”.

11. Identify the five senses and give examples of each one (see, smell, taste, touch, hear).

12. Identify the different stages in the life cycle of plants (seed, plant, tree), animals (egg, chicken, hen), and people (baby, adolescent, adult).

13. Sing authentic songs (“la clase”, ¿Qué tiemp hace hoy?) and play cultural games (“el tren”, “tingo, tango”)

Second Grade

What will students know and be able to do at the end of this course/marking period?
You will be able to:

1. Recognize, classify, and describe different foods, including the food chart (fruits, vegetables, protein, cereals, sweets, dairy).

2. Identify, compare and describe at least 5-7 animals using habitats (forest: fox, bear, deer, wolf, raccoon, squirrel; tropical forest: sloth, toucan, monkey, toad, snake, tapir, parrot, jaguar, iguana, quetzal), and actions (jump, walk, swim, fly, eat, run, have).

3. Become an animal and describe yourselves.

4. Talk about different ways of transportation (bus, boat, truck, plane, helicopter, train, car, motorcycle).

5. Identify and tell about the butterfly life cycle (egg, caterpillar, cocoon, butterfly) and its journey. .

6. Use simple sentences with the new vocabulary to talk about what happens in your daily life (is, eat, live in, has, go by, I like, I don’t like).

7. Sing, using visuals as a prompt, many culturally authentic songs related to the content curriculum (“la iguana y el perezoso”, “la serpiente” and play culturally authentic games that support the curriculum (“el lobo”, “el gato y el ratÛn”).
